What drew you to a career in technology?

My highschool Robotics teacher encouraged me to study Computer Science.

What educational experiences have influenced your thinking and career?

I was once given the opportunity to shadow a police officer during his midnight shift, and it taught me the importance of UI/UX. Much of his job relied on the efficiency of computer applications, yet they were shockingly clunky, inadequate, and difficult to read. I’ve spent many hours dreaming of ways to improve software usability because of that experience.

Tell us about your earliest and/or strongest memories of computers/coding/innovating?

I built a dancing robot for a highschool competition. It performed the ribbon dance from ‘Old School’. Beyond that, I had no idea what Computer Science was until I got to university. I picked it as my major because it sounded difficult, and boy, did that turn out to be true. But I’ve always enjoyed math and logic puzzles, so I am very happy I stuck with it.

Whom do you admire or aspire to be like (and why)?

Dolly Parton. She’s a gem of a human: talented, clever, and always helping those around her.

What is something that you couldn’t live without?

FaceTime, because my family lives very far away.

What are you best known for at TOKN?

Bringing store bought food to our potluck lunches.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

Medical advancements are the most important, but the innovation that has most affected my life has been the smartphone.

How do you define success?

Achieving my goals, and being able to help others.

If I had the power to instantly change one thing about the world, it would be…

I would make all illnesses curable.

The most enjoyable way to spend my spare time is to…

Game nights with friends and family.

The part that I find most rewarding/exciting about my job is...

I like hearing from our happy customers and seeing their gratitude and excitement when we’ve launched their new app.
